This is the easiest showstopper birthday cake ever.  Angel food cake with strawberries takes a few hands on minutes

Ingredients
Angel Food Cake
  • 1 Box Angel food cake mix water according to directions
Strawberry Sauce
  • 16 Ounces Frozen strawberries
  • 1/3 Cup Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 Tablespoon Lemon juice
Toppings
  • 1 Pint Strawberries
  • 36 Ounces Whipped topping like Cool Whip
Instructions
Angel Food Cake
  1. Follow box directions.  Usually you add water to the mix.  Use an electric mixer, starting on low for 30 seconds so that the mix doesn't fly all over.  Then switch to medium high speed for exactly one minute.

  2. Prepare angel food cake mix pan with parchment paper in the bottom.  Pour mix in the pan, bang on counter a couple of times to pop any bubbles.  Bake according to directions, usually in a 350 degree oven for 38-45 minutes or until the top is golden brown and has large cracks.

Strawberry Sauce
  1. Defrost strawberries, add sugar, vanilla and lemon juice and let sit for 30 minutes.

Toppings
  1. Slice strawberries to go in between layers and to decorate the top.

Frost Cake
  1. When cake comes out of the oven, place upside down on a bottle until completely cool.  Remove from pan and cut one or two horizontal slices, depending on how many layers you want.

  2. Frost the top of bottom layer with whipped topping and sliced strawberries, repeat with layers.  The put a crumb coat on top and sides of cake which is a thin layer of whipped topping and then chill cake for at least 15 minutes.

  3. Next add the final coat of whipped topping and decorate with strawberries.  serve with strawberry sauce

  4. Optional:  If you want a smooth sauce then run through a blender.
