Spa water is a fruit infused refreshing drink. Less sweet and sugary than a soda. Filled with natural fruit and/or vegetables giving just a hint of flavor to the infusion water.
I usually buy non flavored seltzer water, or better known as sparkling water like La Croix or Polar Seltzer brands. Then I add fresh fruit so that I always have a variety of flavored water.
How To Make Spa Water
Spa water is yet another “unrecipe” from On The Go Bites. Meaning there are so many ways to combine fruit, vegetables and herbs for infusion water.
Make sure to wash your fruit, vegetables and herbs before cutting.
Thinly slice the vegetables or fruit and add directly to your glass of water or to a large pitcher. Some fruit drops to the bottom and others float. The longer the water sits the stronger the infusion taste.
How To Make The Infusion Water Like In The Picture
So you ask, how did we get the fruit slices to stay on the side of the pitcher? Ice is the answer.
Fill the pitcher with ice up a few inches. Then place a layer of sliced lemons, limes, oranges or whatever you are using around the inside perimeter of the pitcher.
Then keep repeating until you are at the top of the pitcher. So the ice serves to hold the fruit in place and also keeps your spa water cold.
If you are having a party you’ll want to keep refilling the ice or the fruit slices will start to tip over.
What Fruit to Use For Fruit Infused Water
Citrus Fruit – citrus fruit like lemons, limes, oranges and grapefruit are classic for fruit infused water. Combinations like lemon and lime will remind you of Sprite.
Stone fruits – stone fruits like cherries or peaches should be cut in chunks or in half to get the most flavor.
Other fruit – berries like strawberries, blueberries and raspberries are delicious and infuse a tremendous amount of flavor.
Raspberries and lemon make a great spa water combination.
Watermelon is the quintessential summer time flavor for water.
Kiwi is great with strawberries. It reminds me of my favorite smoothie flavor from Smoothie King. For a burst of flavor add a splash of lemon juice or a slice of lemon.
Pineapple and mint or basil work well for fruit infused water.
What Herbs To Use With Spa Water
Herbs – Mint is the first herb that comes to mind for flavor infused waters. Strawberry and mint are particularly good.
Thyme leaves are great too. Try peach and thyme for a really refreshing flavor combination.
Basil mixes well with strawberries and cucumbers.
What Vegetables to Use For Spa Water
Cucumber – cucumber is the king of vegetables to infuse water. So refreshing, and cucumber marries well with fruit like strawberries.
Cucumber, lemon and mint is a great way to wind down the day.
